Just to be ultra-pedantic, you can charge the system as a vapor but it must be withdrawn from the cylinder as a liquid.

R410a is not a substitute for R22. *ever*.

Please don't use straight Propane in an R12 system. The appropriate blend to replace R12 is about 40% R660a (iso-butane) and 60% R290 (propane).

In this chart OZ-12 is the 40/60 blend. Watch the...

Except he did get more heat. The discharge gas did not get any hotter, but the condensing temperature was 113F and increased to 117F (210 vs 220 PSI). Not a massive, but a tangible increase.

Ok, I'm late to this party primarily because you guys are awake and at it while I'm asleep.

Don't use the TXV. Now here's why. The sole purpose of a TXV is to maximise the use of the evaporators...

Look, the reality is that a refrigeration system is a balance. A properly designed system will have a defined heat load on the evaporator, a condenser to suit and a compressor and cap tube to suit...

So that is about 87C. Most compressor data sheets I've checked seem to think that over 100 is worth worrying about (212F). It's hot, but it's not out of the ballpark for a refrigeration system.

To be honest, unless the coil surrounding the compressor is pretty much bonded to the shell it's doing almost nothing for you. Radiant heat from the shell will superheat the gas in the pipe which...

Compressors are either cooled by fan or cooled by suction gas.
Cooled by fan is obvious. You need a constant airflow over the shell. Cooled by suction gas requires a minimum mass flow and a minimum...

Ok, so you need to know some maths. I'll run an example for you.

I have a flat plate condenser on my ducted system at home. Here's how I sized it.

I have water available to me at 19C. I have a...

Don't do this _ever_. Those threads are not seals and will not be seals even *with* thread tape. The seal on the service valve is the faceted surface right on the end of the valve, and it seals by...
