Well, you could install it right under the shower and have it preheat your cold water going to the shower. That would work perfectly. I highly doubt you can take a shower before a drop of hot water...

Since they install them vertically, the water going down the drain clings to the sides of the pipe creating a thin film and thus a great amount of surface area...
