Yes, I built essentially the same type "coffin box" around my fan that Jeff5may described above from 2' thick foam and I split the top into halves and hinged from both sides with duct tape....

My attic has the normal vents in the eaves and at the roof peak, so when the whole house attic fan is running with windows or doors open, the air is drawn in the house and is pulled up thru the fan...
