Those little sealed lead acid batteries usually don't last long even in the best of conditions, they're built to be cheap. Not to mention largely obsolete when lithium batteries are cheaper nowadays....

R22 has been out of production for many years and is really expensive now. There are a number of different (near) "drop in" replacements such as R433b although I'm not sure what's most popular now....

R433b is pretty close to a drop in replacement, it will require tweaking the TXV to perform its best so make sure the TXV is adjustable first.
