I think the price has come down to around $3 to $4 per watt of generating capacity installed by a professional installers.

Panels are $1/W or less, sometimes $0.5/W or less in bulk. DIY makes a lot of sense.

We're getting $2.20/W, installed, from Tesla after you count the 30% federal tax credit. I guess most local companies would be cheaper than that.
|
I checked with the local vendors and also got some programs for discounts in my state. I am getting it at a rate of 1.5-2$ per W. Can you please provide suggestions before entering into a contract.

I don't understand the prices in the US. Over here (the Netherlands in Europe) we pay about € 1,15/Watt (=approx. $ 1,40) including cabling, inverter, mounting etc.
Why are the prices so much higher in the US. Is this thanks to the America first politics? ;) |
My understanding is, it's due to fragmented bureaucracies. Every tiny utility has its own process to get approved.

Last deal I jumped on was $0.78/W for panels and inverters shipped to my door. I've seen them for $0.09 less since then... The cross country freight truck shipping cost the equivalent of 2.5 panels with inverters.
The National Electric Code compliance paperwork will cost me the equivalent of 1.5 panels + inverters. I'm still working out the cost of a ground mount capable of withstanding a 3 second gust of 170mph... However, that cost factors greatly into the expense of installing panels where I am in the US versus other locations. For another install of mine (in a different climate), I need to come up with a ground mount capable of withstanding 100mph winds and upto 100" snow loads. |
An ebay seller in Gilbert AZ has 310W take-offs for $126 each in qty=10. His feedback isn't very good but I suppose that comes with selling surplus - or possibly inadequate crating. Given the frame size I would be concerned about proper crating for shipment.
