Hello, just found the group and signed up. Always looking for green ways to save energy.
Just finished a water cooling system for our 12' x 38' long Lanai (screaned porch) Before turning it on, the underside of the aluminum (uninsulated) roof pans was 125 deg. After turning the system on for 1 minute, the temp dropped to 86 degrees. That was with an outside temp of 92 degrees. If I am going to be using the lanai, on hot days, I turn it on when the ceiling temp reaches about 90 deg. I have a timer set to run it for 1 minute, every 15 minutes. It's well water, that doesn't stink! |
Welcome to the site Pirate.
We would love to hear more about this cooling system. Pictures are always great to see too. |
I ran a 3/4" pvc pipe across the top edge of the roof, with micro sprinkler heads every 4'. A hose goes from there to a irrigation valve, wired to a 24 volt power supply. The power supply is plugged into a digital timer, set to come on for 1 minute, every 15 minutes.
Works good. Just have to take the pipe down and paint it, for sun protection. |
Sounds great, simple, easy to do and seems pretty cheap! How well has it been working for you?

It works great. I just got home and had it off. The ceiling temp was 125 degrees. The outside temp is 94 degrees.
I turned it on and after 1 minute, the ceiling temp was 90 degrees. After 10 minutes it was 95 degrees. After 15 minutes it was 106 degrees. Then it repeats the 1 minute on/15 minutes off cycle. I may try off for 12 minutes and see the results. As it is, we noticed a difference this wk. end while we were in and out of the lanai. Here is a link to the timer I bought.
