Who cans stuff from their garden?

My family has canned forever just because of the farm and canning and all that. But, people are saying that canning is making a come back. Does anyone else here can stuff they grow?

My family does mostly greenbeans, salsas, sauces, all that kinda stuff.

We occasionally can tomatoes from the garden. We have a pressure cooker so we will can peaches from the market when they are in season too.

Next year the wife is planning on canning depending on how much we get from the garden. She would like to start with tomatoes, pickles, green beans and possibly carrots.

my mother and grandmother both can. but they also have their own orchard, with pears, plums, apples, and peaches. plus they have strawberries, carrots, green beans, corn, etc.... so they do a lot of canning, and i reap the benefits every time i go home to visit. lets just say its a good thing i love PB & J sandwiches. :D I know how to do it all, just need to jump into it again at my own home.

oh yeah, they also don't use any insecticide/weed killer, and they have plenty of sources for fertilizer (compost, horses, and cows)

kinda un-related, but they also raise their own beef. not a lot, but it doesn't take much. they just had 2 cows slaughtered, and had it all ground into hamburger this time (sometimes they do a mixture of steaks/burger). the result? 1100 pounds of beef shrink-wrapped into 1 pound packs.

i only hope i can someday have a fraction of the self-sufficient lifestyle they have.

My fiance got a lot of canned goods from a neighbor of hers (she lives in a suburban subdivision) so I guess it is making a come-back. I've heard a lot on the news, and other programs talking a lot more about the benefits of growing your own food, and canning it.

When we finally get our own house my fiance and I are planning on having a lot of herbs, fruit, and vegetables, and I know she's excited about canning our own goods. :D

My wife does salsa and canned tomatoes at the moment. She uses it mostly for when she makes her spaghetti sauce. We also freeze our beans. I'd like to learn more about canning and what not. My mom makes AWESOME apple jelly.
