Solar Lease Deal
1 Attachment(s)
People ask me a lot about leasing Solar but I have never had hard numbers to show them.
I usually say, they are coming to you to get you to do it who do you think it benefits? Someone asked me to look at a leased solar array that was already installed on a house they are looking to buy. The array is 12.72 KW Lease payments total cost is 51,069.53 if you buy it out at the end it is for 3,170 total 54,239.53 They are on the second year. Their first year solar 15,306 KWh They pay $160 a month and it increases 2.9% a year. https://ecorenovator.org/forum/attac...1&d=1532532609 Buyout is more than just prepaying it. No leak roof has a 10 year guaranteed. So if you shingle your roof you have to pay to take it off and back on. My array is producing from 18.1 – 19.6 MWh a year Compare to my array. My array is 12.5 KW cost $20,000 (no labor) after tax credit $9,000 paid off 4 ½ years. Free power for the next 20+ years. If you can DIY that is the way to go. Others have posted similar numbers to mine here. |
12.7kw for $60,000?
What a freaking rip off. For $60,000 I would be completely off grid, have the ground work layed for the next upgrade (over sized wiring), and have enough left over to buy another used nissan leaf probably a spare charge controller, inverter and a few spare solar panels. |
To get out of the deal you have to pay out the 20-year payments so prepay for your power that they have not yet produced. Then you have to pay for the value of the equipment.
I am not sure how that is legal. |
Fun with Numbers!
This looks like something one would buy at a seminar in an Atlantic City casino. The time share racket hasn't been doing well lately. Maybe they are moving into the green market. |
I agree with you it seems like the same type of a deal. Very shady.
I use to allow public viewing my solar array through Enphase website. I had a leasing company come to my door and want my production information for my system and power bills. They wanted to use my numbers to help them sell leased solar locally. I was like no way. “They said don’t you support solar” I said yes I support solar and I really support DIY solar installs but I really don’t support leasing solar it is like payday lending and it takes advantage people that don’t want to real your contracts. I took my system off public viewing that day. |

I've gone as far as telling to go buy me a six pack of beer and I'le talk to you as long as you want. Other times I'd tell them I was a consultant and if they wanted to talk with me I had a forty, fifty whatever dollar per hour consultant rate at a minimum of a one hour charge. Had to pay up front if they wanted any questions answered. They would almost run from the house on that one. So much fun. JJ |
I have an associates in applied science for wind and solar power generation.
I would destroy these salesman. The consultant thing is brilliant. |
