LED Lights powered by discarded batteries

Surfing today I found this. They are street lamps that are powered by discarded batteries. The batteries don't have enough juice to power any electronic gadgets, but do have enough left in them to power some LEDs.

I'm thinking it wouldn't be too hard to do something similar for a night light. Maybe use a LED flashlight and modify it?

huh, i've got an old car battery sitting around.......... and i could use a light for my shed until i get power run......... and some random LED's (one busted yard light, busted flashlight, and some from the 3rd brake light off the car my wife totaled.)

We call them "Joule thieves." and they are great for finishing off batteries. (or reconditioning rechargeable batteries.)
