Indoor Propane heaters 18000 Btu for Shop ?
 

I noticed a cheap propane heater rated for indoor use which made me think one would be great for the shop. as these are radiant heaters you just point them and they heat the immediate area , allowing you to pin point the Btu's.

Its basically a glorified camping heater , this one is for reference only as it's $118 , I bet they could be found for 1/2 the price, easily.

Even a cheap Camping type would be good for those winter Projects

The above model is for outdoor use

You'll do better with a heat pump.

I just bought one of the propane infrared heaters that attaches to a propane BBQ bottle and was amazed at how much water vapor it puts off!

While building the shop, we used it on cold days to warm hands, but I would absolutely not use it in an enclosed space.

$20 a bottle might be a get expensive depending how much time you spend in there. Heat lamps are another option. They draw some power but with radiant heat they don't waste as much energy heating the air vs heating the surface.

I like the heat lamp idea , very directional, as a bonus you get improved lighting. I think I will try it when changing the clutch in my shop. My garage is in half the basement.

Massively improved lighting over my current mini table lamps I use under the car & instant heat.
The lamp could be installed in a steel case from say a electric heater etc. and used on the floor.

I think the enclosed heat / work lamp idea would Sell if it was in the Stores.

And marketed as a Heater ..

Sweet! I remember working on my car during some cold winters and wanting to stay close to those quartz work lamps. I'm curious on the spectrum they put out, if there's more uv or ir.
Once I had an a/c repair, the house wouldn't cool down. Turned out the customer had bought a bunch of unmarked clearance bulbs for his recessed can lights. He was running 10 heat lamps through out his house.

This is all great.

However, since I built a CO2 sensing fan controller, and can actually see the impact of CO2 from these "vent free" heaters.

I got one of these "vent free" NG heater things for my own shop, and the CO2 buildup was very fast and increasing.

Being involved in the CO2 controller project made me aware of the changes to awareness and judgment that increased CO2 levels can produce.

We need our very best perception and judgment when we're working in a shop.

The "vent free" heaters all have minimum cross-flow ventilation requirements. These requirements need to be regarded as the absolute minimum... not the optimum.

I expect most people will not use them correctly , and some have died as a result.
I was thinking about the vent less fireplaces from a separate thread that in all likely hood has killed many unsuspected people who think - they would not sell it if it could kill me - well they would and do , just like handguns & bullets you must use them correctly or immanent death is likely.
