New Solar Heat Clothes Dryer

This is a new clothes dryer that is a machine in your house, and it uses solar heat:

Pretty slick. I hope we have a fully integrated heating system that uses solar heat and solar PV to operate 100% fossil fuel free.

Interesting, but sounds complex.

I like the idea that some guy on builditsolar had which was to pull hot attic air as the intake for his dryer.

Our solar clothes dryer is probably on its last day today, will take 7-8 months to get it working again.

Usually store the supporting tensile members over fall/winter, otherwise has worked FLAWLESSLY for over 50 years with minimal maintenance, did paint the vertical cantilever support struts once or twice. Pretty easy to schedule laundry days around the occasional power outages.

I recall that Piwoslaw had a wonderful solution to this problem, where in he uses an already existing small part of his house with windows, to hang wet clothes.

I think that this is a very appropriate solution, on so many fronts:
  • No new manufacturing cost (monetary or environmental)
  • No power required
  • No moving parts
  • No noise
  • Extremely reliable
  • Does not remove fiber from clothing (lint)

Three cheers for Piwoslaw!

What an absurd expense! A simple clothesline is much more effective alternative. I hang my clothes to dry outside in the summer. In the winter, they hang in front of my boiler. Of course there are exceptions. Sometimes the dryer is necessary (kids :-). I live in a dry climate so this works quite well for me.
