Heat Pump H20 Heater - Please Help :(

***EDIT: please see pictures in the first 3 posts***

Hi, i hope this is in the right place as this is my first post. Awesome site btw!

I recently purchased a GeoSprings Heat Pump Hot water heater display model w/ electrical components damaged/missing and i'm trying to get help getting it operational anyway! Please take a look at the pics ...any tips appreciated!

1) Notice that the wiring is cut.
The backup heating elements appear to be installed along with wiring that goes up to the top of the unit (shown in the picture as cut)

2) The digital thermostat/computer is a dummy

3) possibly one copper wire is cut or needs to be soldered somewhere

4) There is no way to plug in the outlet into an electricity source

Is this a lost cause? it appears i might be able to get this working w/ mechanical thermostats and a little ingenuity. I'm trying to read the forums for help, but i need some tips from those more experienced. THANKS IN ADVANCED!

-Adam

Looks like a defective unit that they turned into a display model. Good chance the compressor is bad or they would probably have salvaged it, but try running it to be sure.

You may have gotten an incredible steal - or a box of parts.

This looks like a factory fresh unit with some need of repair. It might be handy to first check out the compressor. If it works, then you are on the downhill slide.

Please take a pic of the nameplate and post it here. These units work very well and are well documented on the interweb. The GeoSpring line is made by GE and has had a decent amount of revising done to it since it was first introduced. Knowing the model number would help everyone out.

If you need the exploded view parts list diagram to check for continuity between your unit and the diagram.

I talked to Geo Springs customer support. These are display models from the beginning and not defective units. apparently they take regular units and cut them out to only be sold as display units... Sears was not supposed to sell it to me and therefore GeoSprings will not help. Sears sold me the model as they went out of business locally in they will not accept a return either. I took a picture of the name plate and it is not a typical model number.

How do I test the compressor? Based on the pictures, can anyone tell me what parts I need to get and what steps I ought to take to get it running?

thanks for all of your responses! I appreciate the help!

Looks like the GE number is:

GEH50DEEDSR

Service instructions from GE:

https://gestore.custhelp.com/ci/fatt...ngtraining.pdf
covers entire line in general. You should have a mini-manual (leaflet) stuck to an inside wall of the unit shroud somewhere. It will have wiring and part numbers and such for that specific model.

EDIT: I missed the link while looking from my phone. THANKS!!

Yes, when I called GeoSprings and gave them that number they told me it was the model number of a display unit and as such they will not provide missing parts, because it was not allowed for sale.
