(4) Mini-Split Installation Thread
 

I am in the process of installing four separate Mini Splits, one in my house I'm selling in an upstairs that gets much more hot than the rest of the house.

The other three are going in our new house, 800 sq ft upstairs and downstairs and a separate office.

Before I start laying out plans for location and such, can someone have a look over on my part list and let me know if I'm missing anything or have something I don't need.

- R410a Refrigerant - 25 lb cylinder - New factory sealed tank
- Ductless Mini Split System charging vacuum port adapter, Converts new R410a style 5/16 SAE service ports to accept older 1/4 SAE gauge hoses.

Can anyone let me know if I'm missing anything before I make the purchase? I know I'll need to get nitrogen as well but I can get that locally.

The digital gauge manifold might be overkill for a couple of installs.

The 5 cfm robinair is also overkill. With the small size of a minisplit you can get away with 3cfm or even automotive sized vacuum pumps. You can also rent these pumps and sometimes gauge manifolds at a equipment rental houses. I did find this cheapie though, http://www.amazon.com/Single-stage-R...5VZPP126J861T7

Thanks for the input. I figured since I have four to install and possibly a few in the future I would go ahead and purchase quality components. Plus with the ability to maintain my cars then it's even more worth it.

I really picked the Digital as it seems to be really nice to test for superheat and all that sort of stuff. Thanks on the other advice though, it's good to know.

Did you notice anything I might be missing for when I go to do it? I think I got everything except for the Nitrogen tank which I'm picking up this weekend.

The outdoor units may already have all the refrigerant you need. Check the instructions. You might need to dump some into a recovery cylinder for short runs or add refrigerant for long runs.

Can't believe I didn't think of that. My units do have enough for up to 25' of piping in which I'm doing a short run. Should have bought an empty tank instead.
