finally! PV, GT heat pumps and EV

Some may recall that I use GT heat pumps in our main farm house, a guest house and in my shop. Before these were put in was a lot of work minimizing infiltration and putting in good windows (and other). The shop, for example, was built with SIPS. The GT heap pumps are open loop "pump and dump" that fills my farm ponds for summer irrigation needs. Ground water availability is not an issue.

A year age I installed a 12.5 kW PV system that has reduced our summer kWh use by 95%. Winter kWh use is down by 40%.

Now I just bought a 2013 Nissan Leaf. Yes, it has a limited range (85 miles of so) but it is perfect as 99% of my travel is into town (30 miles round trip). I come home, and plug it into a 120 V outlet and let it charge up.

I am trying to wean my wife from her Honda Civic and into a newer EV as her work commute is ~ 80 miles round trip. The 2013 Leaf simply would not work.

I still have a $25 monthly meter charge and there is currently no time of use rate structure - but that is coming.

Got the Leaf for $3500 and it is perfect, very clean, with 38,000 miles.

I will keep my Honda Element and pickup truck for occasional, but necessary trips.

A dream come true!

Congrats! That is a great deal on the Leaf.
Used EV can get a quick payback and you will be proving that very soon.

Maybe a used BMW I3 with rex for your wife.

Nice score $3500 . for the mileage you could piggy back a used battery pack to it

Where did you find one for that price? I have never seen one priced that low.

I will buy one like that tomorrow with cash if they are costing that much.

The 2013 Leaf was at at Nissan dealership. They were asking $5999, but next to it was the 2018 Leaf with a far better range.

They came down quickly to $5000, but I stuck to my offer. Took the new Nissan for a spin - very nice.

The salesperson then told me his boss had taken the 2013 Leaf in on trade and quietly told me to stick with my offer.

A day later they called and accepted my offer.

Sweet.

Well if that's how much they are going for I will have to go fishing for one.
If a leaf did show up at the Nissan dealer here it would be essentially worthless to people around here.
Because most people with money around here are military and rent their place, most everyone else can only afford 1 vehicle and that vehicle had to be able to get to Lubbock, Amarillo or roswell, each one of those is about 100 miles from here.
I figured $2 gallon gas and newer better electric vehicles would make the 1st and 2nd generation ones as valuable as dirt just not so soon.
All I know is if you walk in with a stack of $100 bills they don't won't you leaving with it.

Post a picture of your new ride.

Been checking the dealer here, no leaf trade-ins.
