Wood to sand to water?
I have a small (all welded steel) wood-stove and a shed next to my building. I've been thinking about welding up a box on top of the stove, placing a coil of copper in the bottom of the box and filling it with sand.
I would plan to connect the copper coil to the hydronic heating system in my building. (Inuslated slab on grade & air-handlers). The shed already exists and will be stocked with my existing firewood supply. The wood-stove would get some insulation and a sheet-metal dog-house. Any heat loss from this will simply help to dry the wood and keep the shed warm/dry. What do you guys think about the sand as a means of both heat transfer and a small thermal storage "mass"? |
