Anything that is free.

Yes free is key! In central Minnesota we have a large variety of rock types to collect(glacier area) and many old farms grew as many rocks as crops so years of rocks removed from fields where piled in untillable areas. Framers had no problem with giving them away free(now landscape companies buy them as rocks are getting scarcer as with most things). We have relocated nearly two thousand basket ball to beach ball size(as large as I can lift) choice feature rocks to our perennial gardens over 25 yrs before demand has risen. Many have been carved with diamond blade saws for effect and stacked and pinned together into cairns and sculptures. When gardens are in full summer growth only about 25% of them are fully visible put in winter with light snow and spring they are as pretty to see as plants in summer. Especially on rainy days when rocks are wet looking polished.

Multicolor stones also look good in the garden, Mexican beach pebbels are also very elegant.

I like big rounded rocks more than the smaller blast rock

Well you are all welcome to as many rocks as you can haul away from my yard. They pop out of the ground like weeds every time it rains. Not high enough to see, of course, but high enough to take the edge off the mower blades.

Dear wife uses them to place around her flower beds, carefully hiding them in the taller grass so as to make sure the mower gets them.

Last month she suggested we buy a $3500 zero turn mower to make caring for three acres less work. Ten gallons of Roundup would have made more sense.

According to me Mexican Beach Pebbles are best for garden, I like to use this rock decoratively in the garden or Most kinds are fairly inexpensive and readily available.

ThaI like to use in my garden red decorative stone can be used for paths, patios & driveways to aids moisture retention in soil and keeps weeds at bay.
