Did you have a warm Nov & Dec 2011?

I heard ours (around Boston) was 5 deg F above normal..
Looking at the chart, I can see why. We had some good bicycle weather!

This was one weird November..

Nope ours felt really cold but comparing numbers I found it was just a tidge warmer then last years cold November. I've had winters here where we wouldn't touch freezing but we've been as low as -4 already and my night time lows have regularly been in the -2 area. 10 day forecast coming up is high's of 2 or 3 low's of -2 or -3.

La nina is like this apparently. We had La Nina last year as well. At least the snow so far was only a couple of inches.

Ours was very warm. It was quite nice and let me get a lot of stuff done that I didn't think I'd have time for.

Yes, XRinger and I are practically neighbors. The ground is not yet frozen, which is quite weird. Today and tomorrow are supposed to get up to about 60F, so the ground will stay unfrozen for at least another week, probably; and maybe longer if it stays this warm during the day.

Motorcycles are still out an about, in numbers. Joggers are still in shorts and tee shirts. I have had a couple of frosty windshields so far, but it is already melting when I go to work, and a quick spray with the cleaner and wipers clear it off. I have not yet needed to wear gloves while driving, which is quite unusual, too.

Bicycling is quite possible -- my 81 year old father is still riding his e-bike and others are out pedaling, too. The upside of this weather is our furnace is only needed once in a while.

The weather folks are talking about how we are going to have another La Nina winter,
but with a bit less snow..?. I'll believe it, when I see it..

My guess is, Mother Nature is trying to lull us into misplacing our gloves,
before smacking us with 6 feet of hardpack..

We've been anywhere from 5-10C warmer then last year. Mostly 5ish. Even now, today has really been the first really cold day at -25C this morning going up to -13C.

History : Weather Underground

Yeah, it does look like a recent nose-dive, on the plot.
Our November plots seems to say the weather was warmer, over a very wide area..

Here, November 2011 was the second coldest (885 heating degree days) since 2004, with 2007 being the coldest @ 930 HDDs and 2006 being the warmest with only 715 HDDs.
This surprised me (and everyone I shared this with), I could swear that it was quite warm. I think this may be because we hardly saw any temperatures below freezing (only a few mornings), plus no rain (or snow) for the last 2-3 months. Being able to ride my road bike well into December, while last year I'd been shovelling snow for two weeks by now, does make it hard to be objective...

Maybe on average it was colder. But, maybe your observations of being warmer,
had to do with the day time peaks that occurred.?.
It looks like about 70% of the days had the temp reach or exceed the average highs.

We kinda saw the same thing. If the forecast said there was going to be a peak at
noontime, we hopped on the bikes at 11:30 AM and rode 7 miles and have a nice lunch.
We would come back home around 14:00, when the peak was really working for us! :)

Didn't need no stinking jackets for lunch rides!! :D

Seemed warm to me, but I am also almost XRinger's neighbor.
