Hi to all

Hi to all

Have baseboard hot water heating now.

This summer hope to start on in floor radiant heat with gravity fed pellet rocket stove.

Welcome to the site Craig n Missy. Sounds like a nice project you are planning. Is there any specific reason you're switching over?

Have been remodeling each room one at a time. Removing 50+ year old oak flooring and replacing it with 18 inch porcelain tile. Removing the cast iron radiators along the floor on inside and outside walls and adding 2 more inches of outside wall thickness and insulation.

Up grading all wiring to #12 and all new, new construction windows. 19 inches of insulation in attic. Currently only heating first floor of my 35 x 55 ft four bedroom, three bath ranch. Will be heating basement of same size as well, when all is done.

The house is now heated with a 1961 Burnham Boiler (house new in 61). Love the fact it still has a pilot light and the circulation pump runs 24-7 during heating season to lessen the loss of heat up the flu. This is good for when the electric is out, it still lights up and the water siphons through the system and we have heat when know one else does.

Still have to do a fuel cost analyses. Even with the best rocket stove and heat transfer system, I think it will still cost me more for the pellets than NG., how ever once trucks and cars start running on NG like a lot of them do in Europe, the supply of gas will fall sharply and the price will sky rocket. This will be one more reason to get off the grid. At a minimum, I will build the system next to the new one I put in so I can switch over when the time comes. All so planning on making my own pellets, most likely out of straw or grass. This can be cost effective.

Would like to see a forum category where you can provide input as to how much they spend on pellet btu’s as apposed to the heating btu’s they were using, average temp outside and inside and so on.

IMO, every one has their own idea on how to build a rocket stove, put it all comes down to how much you spend or save per btu.

Sounds like quite the project you have going on. We would love to hear about it and see some pictures if your obliged.

For wood heat, try out the biofuels forum.
