Gree "Crown" 18kBTU install

Ordered this the other day..
Gree CROWN 18,000 BTU Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner w/ Inverter, Heat Pump, Remote & 25' Lineset (208/230V)

It's going to be here soon. Tomorrow if things go well..

This is going to be a quick & easy install (I hope), since the new unit will be replacing one of the old Sanyo 24k systems.
So, the base site is already in place, wiring done and holes drilled..

I have not gone over the installation manual in any detail.
Been busy with other stuff.. Just got a 2014 Rav4 AWD and studied for and passed the EPA Section 608 Type I 'Open Book' Certification.
https://www.epatest.com/608/
Maybe that will help speed things along..

Funny thing, I noticed my Gree dealer put a new video on Youtube today..
https://youtu.be/PIq4IvASvpk

I wonder if that's my order?? ;)

You guys that have installed Gree units, do you have any tips for me?

I have installed three of them but I read your post to help me install them.
So I think you are all set.

The thing that I really think you will like about them is they can adjust the temp one degree at time.
This is an improvement over my LG unit.

I hope they have a nice defrost cycle.. I hate the defrost mode on the Sanyos.
The power surges darkens the whole neighborhood.. :o

After I get to check it out some, and find it's a good performer (I hope).
I will order a second 18k or 12k Crown for the den.
It would be nice if we had two -20 F Crown systems running this winter. Before the snow flies.
The only problem I see with evaluating the new Gree quickly, is fair fall weather is coming.

If the truck is on schedule, it should be here tomorrow (on maybe our last hot day), then Friday looks rain in the AM & PM..
We have out-of-town company coming this weekend, so install things are going to be moving slow..

I did have one trucking company try to tell me that I needed a lift gate to deliver a Mini split. They of course they wanted to charge extra for this.
A lift gate is nice but not necessary you and just cut the wrap around and take each piece off.
It is not too bad to handle that way.

Most don't try to do this.

The outdoor unit to a 18,000BTU hour split shouldn't weigh much more than 100 pounds.

It's bit more, at over 140 pounds.

It's wider and a bit taller than the Sanyo 24k outdoor units.
I think the fan blades are 4 or 5 inches longer too.
The spacing of the mounting feet is still 24" apart, so it should fit the old mounts.
The problem will be lifting it up onto the mounts!

Took some pictures yesterday

6 Attachment(s)
After inspection and acceptance, I took some snapshots.. Resized them down.
As you can see, the date of manufacture was April 2015.. Not too old..
And the SN seems kinda young! 555.. The HX aluminum fins are coated.
Not the standard aluminum color. Pretty nice unit.. Just a bit large and heavy!

70.6 oz of R410A is about 4.425 pounds. Glad the EPA 608 Type I certification goes up to 5 pounds!

It looks in good shape. How does the indoor unit look?
Mini split with Wi-Fi standard is very cool.

I will have to remember how heavy they can be when I order a 2 ton.

Check out the dims on the three largest systems on this page.

The Crown 18k uses the same size outdoor case, and weights in like a 22k Viro.

38.6 x 31.1 x 16.8 Unit Dimension (WxHxD)inches..
