UV from CFLs?

CFL Lamps Might Cause Skin Damage | UV Radiation CFLs | LiveScience

Reading about this again today and noticed something that may be of interest.
Tiny hair-line cracks in the florescent coating (inside the tube) are where the strong UV is emitted.
So, if you are using a CLF as a reading or work lamp, you might want to inspect it for cracks.

I can recall seeing those little cracks in many CFLs that I've replaced over the years..

Hopefully there is some benefit. But, I looked at a bunch of retired CFLs and none had the cracks.

I'm going to get a SAD light (from Amazon) for my 67 Bday.. :(

Maybe get some vitamin D out of that..?.
If that fails, it looks like it might be good as a work lamp.. Pretty bright.
