No mowing grass substitute
Just came across this is my youtube feed. Sounds really nice. I'm not a huge fan of mowing all the time, especially this time of the year.

I like it to bad we have acres of land.

Do you mow acres?
|
Yes, but luckily some of it is pasture and does not need mowed as often.
Right now my kids have been mowing. |
We have a virtually no mow yard. I usually mow a couple times a year and that's it. So far this year I have only had to mow once.

How do you achieve this Elcam?

I live in Texas (NW of Fort Worth) where we have only had 5" of rain in the past 10 months and it's 105* daily in the summer... I didn't even really need to cut the one time I did. Just knocked down some odd tall weeds.
I'd love to have the problem of mowing as that would mean we have moved to a human hospitable part of the planet... :) We average 6-8 hours a day at or above 100* for much of the summer. I am so glad I didn't use the recommended man J numbers or it would be unlivable in the house here. |
There are lots of alternatives, some vary based on where you live, but none of them look or handle like grass.
Many look like weeds, and/or flower; ie doesn't look like grass. Many are aggressive / invasive, so your neighbor may not appreciate it and/or it may invade your other spaces. Both attributes which make it hardy. Maintenance can get tricky, as a standard weed and feed product may actually kill it. Anything not susceptible is obviously hard to control. Many types of clover, often used in shady areas or around walking paths are common. |
