Homemade electric mower deck.

Has anyone ever done this?
My plan is to buy 2 or 3 used cordless mowers, take the motors from them and mount them on a mower deck where the spindles go, wire it up using the tractors batteries, and mount it to the tractor or pull it.
What do you think, workable?

It's how the GE electrack ran it's mower deck, the motors from tape reals for old old old computer back ups work great and are about the right size.

I picked up 1 cordless mower today $30.
24 volt, 20" cut, I think I'm going to get another one and mount both motors on a 38" mower deck, make the deck full-floating with 4 wheels and try to mount it underneath the tractor or just pull behind.
The tractor I will use is my Sears electric as it has a 24volt, 130 amp/hr battery pack in it. > http://ecorenovator.org/forum/lawn-g...craftsman.html

Interesting idea Doug. I'm interested to see how this turns out.

I torn int the cordless mower and this is what I found.
100amp relay with fuse.
Permanent magnet motor that is fan cooled.
LED battery level gauge.
The deck where the motor mounts is all busted up, that's why this one died.
I set the cutting height on the cordless mower to 2 1/2", slid it under the elcetric massey ET2, there's only about 2 1/2" clearance between the top of the motor and the bottom of the tractor. The top of the motor is white plastic that hold the top bearing and the brushes, 1 hit and it's broke. I think the deck has to go out front or behind.

Picked up another 24volt, 20"cut Yard-works battery powered cordless mower today. Guy said it was 3yrs old and works perfect, told me he always kept the charger hooked up and plugged in.
Paid $10. for it, and it works. This causes a problem because this thing is to good to tear apart, aside from the missing side shoot it works good.
I'm going to keep this one together for when I need a push mower for short quick cuts.
So I guess Ill have to find another one.

Update

I sold the 2nd cordless mower to a friend.
Picked up another one just like it though, so I now have 2 cordless mowers to use.
I got a line in a good solid 38" mower deck that I can put these 2 motors on, I pick up the deck tomorrow.
Will see if I can make this work, I think I'm going to use this on the Electric Sears I have.

Great to hear. I'm interested in how this will all come together. I've been keeping my eye out for a battery push mower too and haven't been able to find anything! It would be nice for the areas around the trees and other areas the rider can't get to. I currently do it all with my string trimmer, but it takes a while when I have to mow an area with that.

The first cordless mower cost me $30.
The 2nd cost $10, I then sold it for $20.
The 3rd one I got for free.
And the 38"mower deck will cost $60.
So 30+60=$90 plus gas. That's what I got into this so far.
