absorption refrigerator
 

I'm new here and not very forum literate (usually just lurk) but I'm thinking of making an absorption refrigerator/ walk in freezer for home use. dos anybody know if steel brake line will work?

Absorption cycle does use steel tubing, since copper is incompatible with the refrigerant.

Steel brake lines could work, but there is an inside-diameter factor to consider. The smaller the diameter, the greater the friction.

If your tubing ID is too small, your absorption cycle may be so impeded by friction that it will not work.

If you can find a working absorption unit, that is about the size you want to build, measure the tubing diameter. That should give you a good starting point.

Ammonia is exceptionally toxic and dangerous. I believe it is heavier than air.

Thoroughly understand all the hazards and precautions before you even begin.

Hey Daox, after the advice from AC_Hacker I've been looking to find an example to look at. That, and the holidays have got me at a standstill. Thanks for prodding me though (I need it!)

Absorption refrigerators are fairly common in RVs. You might go to some RV sales/service places with your measuring calipers.
