I was just draining this outside but in this cold winter it makes more than I thought it would. I was considering just making my own acid-neutralizing device. Similar to this one.
http://www.finehomebuilding.com/how-...iler-acid.aspx Has anyone done this? do you have any suggestions? http://ecorenovator.org/forum/attach...er-makes-h-jpg Here is a well acidic water neutralizing filter http://www.aces.edu/waterquality/faq...php3?rowid=337 |

Lowes has these do you think they would work?
American Countryside 0.5-cu ft Marble Chip http://www.lowes.com/pd_2527-66882-2...ductId=3028435 I would make the container out maybe 2" PVC about 15" long. with screw on fitting at the top so I could refill it. Or Home Depot on sale $2.50 http://www.homedepot.com/p/Vigoro-0-...0943/202292875 Vigoro 0.5 cu. ft. White Marble |
If it's PVC plumbing all the way, you don't need to worry. Otherwise, what you're suggesting should work nicely.

It is Pex but it just drains to the ground under my deck. I have two outdoor cats that would try and maybe drink that water. So I thought it might be good to neutralize it.
I am not sure if this would be bad for them or ever taste good to them. |
Like Mike said you don't have to worry about your plumbing in this case.
My tankless heater is connected to the rest of the wastewater via PVC-plumbing (no metal). You could throw a few pieces of marble on the spot where it drains under your house of course. Also you don't need to worry about your cats, this water is not like battery-acid or something. It's more like mineralwater with sparkles. If it would be harmfull to your cats they would taste that and avoid drinking from it. |
Since it is not going to hurt my plumbing you have the best idea just buying a bag marble and putting a nice pile at the discharge site under my deck. This is not a covered deck rain easily gets to this spot.
