Biomass cogeneration plant in Wisconsin
1 Attachment(s)
I just learned today that WE Energies has somewhat recently started up a biomass cogeneration plant in the wausau area. It has a 50 megawatt capacity, and it also produces steam for the papermill. For fuel, it uses wood, waste wood and sawdust. Its also supposed to improve local air quality over the older boilers that the papermill was using.

Now if they could use the remaining waste heat (post paper plant) to warm nearby homes, offices, or buildings they would have even higher efficiency numbers.
Maybe even use an absorption HVAC unit... |
I work at a place where they make biomass pellets from dead sheep, cows and other out-of-date rotting meat. They crush them up and then cook the mush for 3 hours until all the moisture comes out. The left overs are mixed with pallets and sawdust. Stinks to high heaven! Need a strong stomach for being there.

Sweden have been burning rubbish to make heat and power for communities for years. Its about time the rest of the world caught up.
