three way electric mixing valve

Hi All,

I have a nicely functioning solar augmented radiant floor heating system.
Everything is working fine except for the regulation of in the floor temperature.
I have to manually change the setting on my three way mixing valve to compensate for outside fluctuations in temperature. I am sure this is not an issue that I alone have encountered. I Am looking for a solution to electronically regulate the floor temperature.

I have built the regulator with an Arduino clone: jeenode so I can handle analog or digital steppers. I just haven't been able to find anything yet.

Does anyone have any hints on brands / makes sold in Europe?

Alex

Look up "Belimo" valves and actuators. They have on/ off, spring return or 0-10Vdc input motors and valves which you can use with your Arduino. You should have a thermister attached to the supply pipe on the manifold just before it enters the floor for accurate control.
Modulating valves in our industry are not equipped for steppers so hopefully you can change it to something that does work.

belimo

Thanks Mikesolar,

i looked atheir website and it seems it's what I am looking for.
Luckily they have pricong there as well.
If I'm correct, one of these valves costs around 300~500 USD.

That's a bit more that I had in mind...

yes but if you go to a local heating stockist (wholesaler or distributor) you may be able to get a discount.

Did you have any luck finding a reasonably priced solution? any that I have seen so far are very high cost.

haha, it is a copy of a Belimo valve and even has their colour

Thanks for that E_lexy, that is a lot cheaper than anything I have found. I was able to find the supplier via the part number and I will check the price of a 1" version. The quality would be an important thing to consider alright. I have a similar purpose to yours using an avr/arduino to provide 0-10v output to set flow temperature to a manifold.

Be really careful as there are no approvals on this valve. It might have been tested by an agency but the real money is spent on having a UL or TUV symbol cast into the valve

Thanks for the advice Mike, yes the big money goes into certifying anything electrical really. I am on the way to check from the local wholesaler what the cost will be.
