Greenlite 40W replacement LED bulbs $1.00 each

Greenlite 40 watt equivalent dimmable A19 bulb in bright white (3000K)
6 Watt rated consumption, 22.8 year lifespan.
25000 hour rating, 3 year warranty.
470 lumens rated brightness.
For a buck apiece, I figured why not? These bad boys are on sale at home despot for around 5-6 bucks each. Naturally, a different house brand. I have found that these lights work excellent as drop light bulbs in the garage. They are shatterproof, and don't fail immediately when you drop them. Plus if you hang the light too close to something plastic, they won't melt the object.

They also had 4-packs of CFL 60W equivalent bulbs for a dollar.
Globe Enersaver soft white 13W non-dimmable 10000 hour rating.
That's cheaper than the "new" incandescent bulbs out now.

I wouldn't try to make a claim on the 9-year warranty, though.

I paid 7 each for my Home Depot LED 60W replacements. They are the soft white though. I have had 3 quit working though. But that big ole orange box let me swap them out for some new ones.

Nope. I like the bright white bulbs better anyway. Not quite as yellow as the soft white.

I believe they had the cfl bulbs in soft white, $1 for a box of 4. 2700K color temperature.

With these new (cfl and led) bulbs, you really need to observe the lights operating. The color temperature doesn't mean as much as with incandescent and halogen lights. Lights with the same color temperature definitely do not emit the same spectrum of light, especially between brands.

I'll check them out then. Plus all my light fixtures have a plastic/glass cover that are tinted slightly. Never liked the CFLs, I try to stay away from as many toxic gases as possible. lol

Toxic gasses from CFLs? Is this out gassing of the plastic cover? Not to worry - it is the MERCURY!

More seriously, if you eat tuna fish (one 8 oz can) , you get more mercury than you would if you broke a CFL apart and somehow absorbed all the mercury.

If I can find CFLs at less than $1, I still buy them. Great for areas that don't have a lot of use, but where I can easily reach (replace) them when they die. Closets, a basement area, etc.

Lastly, how is the geothermal water heater holding up? We need an update!

Steve, yes there is sadly the fact that man has poisoned its own food supply with mercury. I don't get tuna for that and other reasons.

ANY mercury that can be avoided, should be. We have been taking major steps in cleaning up our home, from organic foods, to less plastic, to no aluminum cooking pans, no Teflon, no pesticides, even our soaps and washing detergents are organic. So for me, a cfl is still a danger. I believe that having to take it to a special place to have it deposed of speaks for it self.
Call me crazy, that is ok.

Also some studies I've seen showed some high uv radiation levels at close distances (less than 2 feet), again to much of a danger for us seeing as we don't even use a microwave.

I think I've returned about a half dozen to Lowes.. They gave me new ones,
until they stopped failing.. All the LEDs I've got running now, have lasted pretty well..
I actually have two spare LED bulbs on the spares rack..
One 40W eq and one 60W eq.. Maybe I should life test them for a few months.. :p

The dollar tree has 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs in stock today. These ones are warm white color temperature, perfect for bathroom fixtures. Smaller than the last offering, these lamps are globe shaped like carnival bulbs. Grab some quick, they won't last long at a buck apiece.
