Are you planing to buy a new HDTV soon??

The Roku Streaming Stick Makes A Regular TV A Smart TV

"the Roku Streaming Stick only works on TV's that have HDMI ports that are MHL-enhanced--those are the HDMI ports that can also deliver power in order to charge devices that are plugged in. You can simply look at your HDMI port to find out if yours will work--it'll have the letters "MHL" printed right there."

I learned something new already this year..

If you plan on buying a new TV set for your wife or to replace your old CRT set,
be sure to look for one with the "MHL" label on the HDMI ports..
That seems to be the newest version of HDMI and might be more
compatible with newer devices that come along during the next few years.

My 93" doesn't have the connection but I don't really need to connect my cell phone to it so at this point.
Seems like Roku device wants to use a mobile device connection when it doesn't need to. Seems that they are using the standard to produce a device that can send the data in raw form, likely to keep the device small, cheap, and light.

"So if you bought a new TV a year ago, like me... and it isn't smart, like mine isn't... you still won't be able to use the Roku Streaming Stick. Bummer."

Sounds like a plan to produce a product that nobody can use. Sounds like a product failure due to not analyzing the intended audience. Bummer for Roku as most TVs sold now will probably be "smart" TVs that can stream Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, etc. ...or for people like me, I use my Blu-ray player for to use those features and I'm sure its what most people will do.

So, I guess you aren't planing on buying a new TV..

I'm not either, and I already have several devices for watching Netflix etc..

So I'm not really interesting in modernized HDMI stuff.. Unless my old Plasma suddenly dies..

My only TV problem these days, is that newfangled optical audio they
are putting on everything.. No place to get old style L & R audio..
But, I'm hot on the trail of a solution.. :)

"No place to get old style L & R audio"

I just went to my mothers house to hook up her new TV and it has the red and white L and R inputs and outputs. I bought a BluRay player last year and it has them too. What are you looking for that doesn't have them?

My 1 year old lower end LCD doesn't have RCA inputs - coax, component and HDMI that's it.

My cable company is paying me to take free cable for a year and gave me this horrible standard def cable box which only had RCA and coax outputs since the coax is already in use for OTA it sits on a shelf for the year.

If you can't use coaxial because you are using that connection for OTA, you could get one of these.

Granted its not automatic or remote control but it would be a solution until your cable provider hopefully comes out with an option to have a box that has HDMI.

My bedroom Samsung LCD TV has the optical, and it also has a 1/8" earphone jack..
That's why I purchased it. But, every time you cycle the power, it flips back to internal speaker mode!
Which means going 3 or 4 levels down into the setup menus to get audio back to the headphones..

Anyways, my new Logitech Revue only has optical.. :(
(Right now, I have to use a TV, so I can hear Pandora on the HDMI audio channel).
A new FiiO D3 box will be here in a few days.. I hope..
