Use water to cool down the apartment

Hey there,

A heat front just passed us and it got me an idea. That is basicly the only time that the apartment gets to hot to do anything ... and this heat fronts only last like 4 days ... could i use water to cool down the apartment on those hot days ?

My apartment is 20 m^2 (215 feet^2). Water is quite cheep here soo i could use up to 1 cubic meter of it.

Water can hold huge amounts of energy, the only problem is that the temperature difference between air and water will be small ( about 10C ) which means it will be very hard to cool air with it. I had a few ideas, for instance connect a radiator with water pump and also add some fans to blow over radiator. Or simply attach some pipes to wall and as water runs through the pipes, it will be touching the wall and cooling it, and since the wall acts as a huge radiator, it will cool down the air ... could this be done ?

Depending on how humid it is where you are you might check in to a evaporative cooler (a.k.a swamp cooler). They can use water more efficiently to cool the air than a grey water system.

Water can hold a lot of heat but it also needs a place to give up that heat. There have been ideas before about using a pool to cool the house and at the same time heat the pool water which are both benefitial. However a decent sized pool holds thousands of gallons of water.

Sounds like a lot of work. What i did right now is close all the windows and turned on the showed and put a fan to blow air into it. The bathroom did go down 2-3C and its very comfy there ... since my whole apartment is very small, i wonder if i can use that cool air from bathroom to cool the rest of the place. I am not looking for a lot of drop in temperature, for that i will get the AC ... i am just looking for a degree or two drop during those few sun fronts a year that hit us ... 1 is just nearing ...

I also directed fan towards my work space and it did cool me down ... it gave me a headache though and im afraid its gonna make me ill.

Hey Use water to cool down the apartment it's ok. But i think that its not a good idea becouse water also contain a lots of energy.

With the pool that razor spoke of i think it would work ,water pumps ,fans and the radiators and related connection hoses and fittings and your set.. whew though what a lot of work and retrofitting.

Because something is possible doesn't mean you should do it, or its a good idea...
although your circumstance may warrant it :-)

A 5,000btu 500w window ac unit can be had for about $100 and will consume a much lower average wattage when used conservatively in a small area.

Just buy an used air conditioner which will be in your budget.
