Urinal anyone?
Okay... so here it goes... My first thread... I think..
My background.. I have little to no mechanical expertise. I am learning as I go. As the son of a single mother we ordered out and lived in rented structures always after 3rd grade so all maintainance was taken care of for us always. I grew up and married. nothing was more embarrassing than buying a brand new toilet and having my wife install it cuz i didn't know how. I am learning tho and I changed 3 lawn sprinkler heads in just under 90 minutes. (i know it was slow, but they work) That wife and I now have a 3 yo son. She insisted on potty training him. and now he uses the toilet. He uses is it like a misogynistic sailor uses a Singapore call girl. He whizzes all over the place, flinging his pee like he is marking the territory for a whole herd of laughing hyena's. My solution is to get a urinal that goes to the floor. When we go to McD's he uses one there and never spills a drop. But I need it to be waterless. That is me wanting to do my part for the environment. It must be cheap as I haven't worked for over a year. Where can I find one of these? How hard is it to put in without the standard plumbing? And is this doable and has anyone else done it, or am I just nutzo? |
Waterless? Man! That is NOT going to smell very good..
You need a flusher on it. At work (and at the bowling alley) they have auto-flush sensors, once you zip-up and move away, it flushes a quart or two, all by itself. http://www.supplyhero.com/_FileLibra...ush_chrome.jpg TECHNICAL CONCEPTS AUTOFLUSH SIDEMOUNT - METAL (URINAL) TC 401982 Less than $200 on Ebay.. :) Dang, you can buy just about anything on Ebay! Teach him to pee outside, with kids you can easily get away with that on a city lot, as an adult it's a little harder but not impossible, I do it to keep the deer away from my garden and apple tree that is in the front yard.
Peeing out side does not use any water to flush and it's free to do and you don't have to worry about cleaning up over spray or splatter. |

not true waterless urinals don't stink..really! |
urinals usually aren't cheap. It's far easier to teach him to aim...

is a problem for beer drinkers around here. ;) I suspect, in places where the PC fools have embraced zero tolerance and are already treating misbehaving children like they were serious felons, there are going to be those who would want to "Make an Example" of boys who chose to relieve themselves in any public place. If you live in a PC zone, you might want to be careful about teaching your boy to pee in the great outdoors. You might end up facing the some state 'Child Welfare' zealous in court. |
I second the outside recommendation. I pee outside whenever I can and my son does so more often than even I because, as said, he can get away with it. Find a spot that he likes.
Even though I more or less live in a city I can get away with it because a lot of my yard is blocked off by dense fir trees. I can actually go outside to smoke and use the lap top naked. :) |

People who get tickets for public urination around here often get them because they were using the door way to a business, or an ally way and they were drunk enough not to notice that there was a cop standing behind them, when I pee in my yard I always make sure there is not a cop standing behind me and if there is I tell them to get off my lawn. |
Hey S-F, Did you pose for any pictures??

If you check around your area you might find a used building matiral store, the one's that I've been to here often have urinals, altho they are the type that flush with water, your cost savings of going waterless is quite small because of the chemicals that you have to add to the waterless type and if you are going for used, you might be able to find one for $50 or so, of course the costly part is installing the drain, the water line is not bad if you use PEX tubing.
