What exactly is the benefit of this again?

propane is cheaper to operate a motor with as well as cleaner and easier to refill and store for the season or even multiple years.

Propane can make you smarter , if you educate yourself on its installation and benefits :) unlike gasoline engines or tv series which tend to make people brain dead.

Would it be worth it to convert a generator to propane?

That's like asking will it be worth it to buy a car ?

would it be worth it to buy new runners ?

As for the car if a person is walking all over hells acres and bumming rides to no end then yes a car is 'worth it'

As for the runners if the previous pair is worn out or inadequate then yes new runners are worth it.

As for the Propane conversion on a generator is it 'worth it' depends on if you want to save money on operating it for prolonged periods of time (a good idea)

or if you want to have the convenience of stable fuel ready and waiting for an emergency ( you will still probably need gasoline to start the generator before turning on the propane but not much of it )

or if want to have a cleaner burning generator that puts out less toxic exhaust into the air your breathing then YES propane is worth it.


If you have never started your generator or used it once since you bought it 4 years ago etc. perhaps the Propane conversion is not so worth it for you.

I have a generator.
As ecomodded so eloquently stated , would it be a good idea to convert to propane?
I can see the benefit of not having to store gas, fuel system not getting messed and so forth.

Propane is more expensive than gasoline here.

Why does it always boil down to dollars? What ever happened to keep it simple? More importantly, what will we all do when the price of energy skyrockets?

I would only do a LPG conversion if it saved me money copared to the current fueling cost.

Propane is about 80% as efficient by volume as compared to gasoline, Propane is *usually* much cheaper then Gas allowing a person to still save money on fuel after the losses. If local Propane prices are 20% less then gasoline then you would break even on fueling costs. If its not then its a more expensive fuel to use although be it a cleaner and easily stored fuel.

For me Propane is worth it , My propane costs are .88 liter 30% cheaper compared to gasoline's $1.25 per liter. After 20% efficiency loss by volume Propane still is about 10% more cost effective to run.

I am all brushed up on my Propane / LPG facts as I have a kit coming from overseas (china) that is designed for a 20 hp motorcycle that I am going to install on my VW diesel as a fueling horsepower booster.

I should be able to get 25-30 hp out of the lpg system do to my diesels turbo and 20 psi cylinder compression.

The "gasoline gallon equivalent" of propane is 0.744. Propane in my area is about $2.10/gallon WITHOUT any taxes. Using the GGE, that is about $2.82 per gallon.

Add federal tax, state tax and road tax.

For most combustion engines applications gasoline is more convenient, easier to obtain, store (short term), transport and cheaper initial cost of the equipment.


Of course, if you buy "enough" (?) propane the wholesale price is much less.

Propane is 56 cents a liter in some places in Canada.

How anyone can deduce that gasoline is easier to store than Propane is hilarious to put it mildly.

ever spill gasoline ? No ? ever smell it being transported ? no ? oh well maybe you like how it gums up carburetors while sitting and goes flat in a tank, that must be it.
