Unfortunately, I have too many trees around my house to use solar. No one spot on my roof or in my yard gets more than about 2 hours of unshaded sun. I'm not willing to cut my trees to go solar just yet. Keeps my cooling costs down and lets me use my whole house attic fan longer so I don't have to run the air conditioner.

Safety was the main reason I cleared out all the trees that were close to our house.
I hated iced up limbs falling on the sidewalk every other winter.
Dangerous, and messy to clean up when there's 2 feet of snow on them.
Plus, all the leaves in the fall are a real PITBack..
Now, all we have to deal with is the 50 & 70 foot tall trees in the back of the backyard..
They are still within striking range of the house, but the tops are thinner,
so they might not do much damage to the house. Only the deck will be smashed up.. :(

I've been working on them, but there are so many of them!!

Say hello to my little freind..

Down here in Memphis, we don't have the same cold weather that you do so I'm not so concerned about icy limbs. We have hot summers like you wouldn't believe so the shade is a bigger plus for me.

If I lived down there, I would look into an Inverter type Mini-split AC (with heat if I didn't have cheap gas heat).
Mini-split ductless system don't make much noise and cost much less to run than the old wall shakers or central AC systems..

Yeah, they'd be perfect for the mild winters you have too.

Do you know anybody that has them installed?

Xringer 09-22-11 10:05 AM

A few people have posted about them on the forums, try the geothermal page..

Hey Xringer,,, should have explained a little better, it was the Gov't way of getting more take-up in the sceem, bit of a sweetner. Differant States diff rates.
NSW was 66cwh now 20cwh theirs wasn't in law. They are Grid feed invertors, and you use what you produce first and any left over is credited to your a/c. We still paid $148 for three mths over winter, but $60 in summer last. So I'm just increasing to 2085w. People just didn't take up the offers.
Do you want to give duayne a call and find out whats happened to my tracker at Nearly eleven weeks, shouldn't take that long to post to Auzz.
