When I was a kid in Del Rio, I remember going swimming during April..
The creek water wasn't going to get much warmer by July.. :D

I haven't see but was it warmer then normal in anchorage this year? When I went to university in prince george it would warm up to snow. One year was a fair amount warmer then previous winters and it snowed a lot. When it was really cold there was no clouds and no snow.

Right around Christmas, it got colder than average, and stayed pretty low in January.
It was also a bit colder during March.

The rest of the winter temps seems about average..

Crazy to see the map is showing the current temperature now, especially since it was from yesterdays post. I realized it is an embed directly from the weather site so it will be accurate to right now. Crazy it's 32 out right now and I haven't run the heat since 3/9/2012. The hottest the house has been last month was 71 while it was in the 80's outside and the coldest it's been after that has been 55. It's 58 in here now. Comfy with a hoodie so I'll leave the furnace in retirement and I still haven't fired up the A/C but if I keep the house soaking in the cold now, I can probably delay using the A/C for about a few weeks longer than I otherwise would when things actually get hot outside.

For some reason, when you get old and retired, you become a homebody,
so you like being warm all the time.
Well, me anyways. My wife would be happy with 58 in the master bedroom.
She keeps the bedroom door shut most of the time. That cools it right down.
When I come to bed (midnightish) it feels like winter in there! (door back open).
My old bones are getting more sensitive to the cold. Especially my hands. Painful.

I'm going to be real happy when the summer gets here.. :D

Burned 7.6 kWh ($1.26) since midnight. Getting solar now.

After spending my childhood in South Texas, it seems funny to be cold in April..

That was a meter reading error. April's bill came in at $10.77 for 51 kWh. :p Split the sum 60% March and 40% April and they are the lowest ever for each month.

If we weren't heating with the Sanyos, the peak winter months would likely average around 600 kwh.
The oil burner and circulator pump would be running a lot, plus there would be some space heater use too..


The Sanyos saved us some major bucks this past winter.
I realize the winter was pretty mild, but we kept the whole house warm 24/7.

If next winter is 'normal', we will likely keep the house cooler at 18 to 20C (64.4 to 68F).
So, hopefully, the power use won't increase that much.

Bad news.. My TED meter is very erratic (barely working), so my meter readings for the last couple of months are NG.
The same old communications errors, maybe caused by LED & CFL lighting, not sure.

I'm planning on wiring up a special socket for the TED, that will be fed right from the sensor unit in the breaker box.
Once that's done, the TED should update once a second, instead of very randomly.

Even without the TED working, the power bill will give me a good idea how the units are working.

Heating season here again!

About 6 degs cooler this year.. Which seems closer to normal. No global warming this season. :(

This month's Sanyo use:
422 kWh so far. 7 days left in the billing cycle. TED predicts 563 will be used ($93.50)
That's about 18.76 per day. @0.1661 that's $3.12 per day. (Still less than 1 gal of heating oil).

These numbers may not be correct, since the TED is updating very slowly.
When the bill comes in, I'll edit this post if the numbers are too far off.
