We've been taking a nice walk just about every afternoon. On the way back home today,
I was getting warmed up and had unzipped my jacket and removed my gloves.. But, I was still amazed to see people out walking dogs and jogging, while wearing shorts!! Since Nov 1, 2011, until today, the average temp here has been 37.9 °F.. During that same 97 day time span last year (2010-2011) it was 30.7 °F! 7 °F warmer makes a difference in the heating bills... Climatological Data ~~~~ I was in Sears today and they have a ton of 28" snowblowers on the floor.. Just like mine! (still un-used) I should have waited for the big sale!!! |
I just got my January electric bill. It's a laughable 2/3 of my previous record low. I attribute equal portions of that to the weather and the new high-efficiency heat pump.

La Niña ??

2011 - 2012 - 2013 - El Nino La Nina Forecast and Predictions It seems like La Niña (or maybe CO2) and high-efficiency heat pumps are a winning combo!! ;) Whereas we are breaking power usage records here.. :( Since this is our first season: A. Running two Sanyo 24k systems. B. Heating the den (w/ it's 100 sq feet of glass). C. Keeping both systems set to 20 to 21C 24-7. D. Being so old that I need to feel warmer. :p So, we are creating a new benchmark this winter.. If it's colder or warmer next year, we can compare kWh used.. Unless, we decide to run at 21-22C next season!! |
Correction: It's even better than the 2/3 I said.
Compared to the previous 3 Januaries, both Heating Degree Days and kWh/hdd are about 70%. Actual kWh used is about 50% of the previous average. :D At least I was correct in my guess of 50/50 benefit from each. |
i should get graphing software, anyone have suggestions?

Summer was here last month.. For 6 days..

I hope that little 6 days of summer isn't all we get this year..
http://ecorenovator.org/forum/attach...1&d=1333982574 Because, we are still running the heat up here in New England. :o Now that home heating oil cost has skyrocketed over $4 a gallon, some of my neighbors are getting slammed with very large oil bills. At that rate, it's costing us $2 a day to heat our hot water with oil.. But for space heating, the Sanyos are saving our bacon again this month. (Averaging in low 40s F) Now using about 10 kwh a day. ($1.68) Edit: Got some warm peaks this spring(2014), but not real impressive.. http://ecorenovator.org/forum/attach...1&d=1399401615 |
My march bill was HIGHER than last year. The AC ran a few times. We had the most Cooling Degree Days ever (for march), but the 2nd lowest March bill thanks to the new central system. It seems a little high, still.
