The Chevy Silverado hybrid from 2008 had 120v plugins but no one cared.

Although the rooftop solar rigs are very "eco" and a huge win for homeowners pretty much all the way around, they share the same avoidance factor as nuclear power plants. There's a not insignificant upfront investment necessary to swallow. Regulations are many, and the system has to be inspected by a pro before it can be tied to the grid. Even as prices drop, the initial design and construction costs (in addition to the actual equipment) loom large in the eyes of many. There are few who actually put their money where their mouth is in this world, especially when the money is more than a week's paycheck.

I looked into solar and ROI was around the 8 year mark. since a cost effective, virtually no maintenance backyard nuke/gas plant does not exist, that's pretty good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC_BCz0pzMw nuclear doesn't even start generating revenue until year 7. you could rig up a little honda genny to run on piped NG, but the efficiencies aren't there without significant co-gen modifications. |
