Wow! I somehow don't think of 16C (60.8F) as 'Warm'. Unless one is wearing some layers. :eek:

I set the Den Sanyo to 19C at night.. At least when I know it's going to stay above
the 'Sanyo dies' temperature of about 8F.. Not tonight, it's 6PM and already 6.1F :(
And it's still putting out a little warm air. I expect to see the orange LED flashing anytime now.
The space heaters are ready for duty..

Biggest bill we've ever had. 1883 KWHs cost us $484.86 .. .. abt 25.75 cents per KWH.
On the bill it said Usage increased by 31% over last year at this time.

I checked the weather history of the billing cycle..
12-21-2017 to 01-24-2018 average temp was 22F (low -8.4F)
12-21-2016 to 01-24-2017 average temp was 32.7F (low 0.0F)

On average it was 10.7 deg F colder than it was last year..

I guess that accounts for the 31% difference. :rolleyes:

Lesson learned, when the old Sanyo goes, replace it with a Gree -20F unit..

Imagine what it would have cost you if you were using electric resistance heat !

We have a 92% gas furnace & the 2 MS's HP's . Have not run the MS's a whole lot . Our most recent electric bill is $ 101.71 . May be some taxes added to that , also .

Of course , some of the electricity usage it to power the indoor fan on the gas furnace .

I think our most recent gas bill was somewhere around $ 77 and change . I am very grateful we have gas . :-)

In the summer , our gas bill drops to the minimum . Gas range is all that is consuming gas , and that does not add up to much . Our water heater is now electric .

Our coldest winter weather usually comes in February .

I had to use electric resistance heat in the den when the temps got too low..
That did add a lot to the bill. When I analyzed the TED data, it showed the two M/S units(936 KWHs)
used fewer KWHs than the rest of the house (947 KWHs)..
It wasn't the LED TV or the LED lighting, it was mostly the dryer and those two space heaters..


So far, it looks like the Boston area is going to have a mild February. Fingers-Crossed!

Hows that mini holding up . My elcheapo Kozy kool is holding up still . I just got another off brand 2 ton and am putting it up . Forgot about the whole gotta have a vacum pump part :). Gotta either rent r buy one guy i had do it last time is in Louisiana

Vac pumps aren't too expensive.. Considering what an HVAC guy would charge you for a few hours work. I see some on Ebay for $30 to $80..
If mine still works, I'll be using it to vacuum some lines before I use my Recovery rig to drain that old broken down Sanyo. Been meaning to get that ready for another project..

The Gree Crown 18kbtu is still running fine. It's able to handle the very cold weather.
When just had our 1st snow storm. Got almost a foot of snow around here..

It snowed here strangely last year . My mini handled it ok . Obviously i only had 1 ton so i had to use it for what i bought it for . Have been using it to do the whole house . Now that i got the 2 ton almost put in that should put me well over what i need when it dips back into the snow . Temps each year has been getting colder seems like . What type vac pump do you got . I prob look online and get the Nylog for threads . Seems that what y'all used to use . Been since 2014 when i last installed the last one. That something similar that you run . I dont have anything as for as line sets .

When I installed my 1st Sanyo..
That one had a blow-out (hole in the pipe from the compressor) and the they sent me a 'free' replacement outdoor unit. :)

I've still got a little Nylog left over from 2009, but it's on my wish list at Amazon.. Just in case the cap wasn't tight enough! ;)

Did you end up building any sort of roof/snow protection over the new Gree? Looked through the thread but didn’t see anything about it, hopefully I didn’t miss the post. IIRC you built something over one of the Sanyos correct?

Had a Bryant (carrier) 18k mini installed. They claim heating down to -22*F. Supposed to get to 2*F here tonight. It’s the sole heat source for my 700 sq ft home. Looking forward to giving it a workout.

I ask because during the last snow storm here I made a makeshift lean-to out of some cardboard over the coil side of the mini and it went from sucking up a blizzard to almost no flakes making it to the coil. Seems like a major efficiency improvement.

Yeah, I have a snow roof over both mini-splits. The new one is over the old Sanyo in back of the house.
It's similar, but has a higher angle for better snow dumping, and it's got a tin roof.
I'm getting old, maybe I forgot to take pictures and post.. Yikes!
