We are old folks and use old folks-phones (TracFones) for $100 per year..
But we do have some tablets.. Our encryption is the standard stuff.

The problem with the Gree as installed, is the SSID tells anyone with wifi,
that it's a Gree system. If they google 'Gree wifi' and do some digging,
they can find out that 1234 is how to connect, and the app isn't too hard to find.

Allowing anyone to change the wifi code and the user name & PW..
Once that's done, they can turn up the heat and cook us in our beds!! LOL!
(Unless we use the remote to turn off the wifi board).. :p

In the manuals, they recommend changing from the published code right away.

Our cars have the Toyota's standard security (no remote start) which will keep the kids out while we're shopping..
If we were worried about signal capture, we could just lock the car with the key when shopping..

Our garage has very good security and that's where we keep the Toyotas..
Nothing is 100% or even close. But, the risk is so small, it's normally enough to just keep the doors locked etc..

Gree is the worst company ever. I bought a ductless system from them and had a question about a feature that was not working on my unit. I called their hotline number and the lady gave me a technical service number that I was never able to reach a live person just an answering machine asking me to leave a message how ridiculous is that for such a big company. never again

Before I even made a purchase, I called ComfortUp and did they same thing. Call "Gree Tech support at 866-305-9974".
When I called them, I got a message machine! Left a message, and they called me back, and answered my questions..
(Edit: I wasn't home, and the support guy left his cell number, and I called him back).

There was a time when my phone number had a Typo, so they were delayed in the call back..
But, both ComfortUp and Gree support have provided very good service so far..

My advice to anyone who wants to buy a mini-split (from any US company),
if you don't want to wait for a call-back, don't buy one..
You don't find very many companies these days that are phone-tag free..

The only real negative with ComfortUp was the poor flares on the 25' line-set.
I don't know where they got these linesets, but their incoming QA needs to
go to 100% inspection for a while.
(Other linesets that I have purchased, all had excellent flares).

Without asking ComfortUp, I did get a back a $50 paypal credit for my re-flare labor..
And, I really like the nice quality black 'Gree' baseball cap they sent me!

The default when powering up the Gree, is to use the last heat or cooling setting.
But, the thermostat mode boots up to use the IDU heat sensor..

So, each time we turn on the Gree, we have to remember to press the "I Feel" button.
(a small odd looking icon appears on the remote LCD).
The Sanyo default is using the remote sensor, with a recessed button, to enable the IDU sensor. (It's remembered on re-boot)..

The reason I can't use the Gree IDU sensor, is the warm air from the den,
floats into the LR, keeping the Gree from coming on, for long periods.
By using the "I Feel" mode, the hallway temperature is better regulated.
The new Gree remote is mounted in the hallway, where the Sanyo remote used to be..

It's been getting cooler lately, so we have been setting the (Den) Sanyo to 20C, and the LR Gree to 68F.
That keeps the two bedrooms just right for sleeping. Around 65-66F..
When the winter gets here, we will likely tweak the setpoint for the Gree,
and partly close off the Den at night.. Keeping that area at a lower temp..

New power use measurement
 

7 hours of Run-time from midnight until 7AM. (Before solar heats up south side LR).
Gree is isolated from Sanyo because Den doors (and service window) are shut.
LR hall doors to bathroom, small and master bedrooms are open at night.
Outdoor temp average of about 35F. (see pic).
Both systems were set to 68F degrees (Sanyo on 20C).

Seven hours of run..
Den Sanyo 2.3 KWh. (max peak was 480 W. For Month was 560W)
LR Gree 4.2 KWh. (max peak was 2.49 KW. For month was 2.98 KW)
(Note: These Short term Max peaks last a few minutes).

$0.2035 per KWh x 6.5KWh = $1.32 or 19 cents/hour (at night-No solar assist).

We are cat-sitting, and the den has been closed at night this week.. :o
So, my estimates of how leaky the Den is, seem to be in error.(big time).
At least during mild outdoor temps. Trying to measure the difference
in power use when the double-door and service window is open, is not a good idea.

Once the cat returns to it's home, the doors and access window will open
and allow air exchange and power use should be close to equal,
if both units are on the same set-point..

The main difference in power use is the full-on and full-off cycling of the Gree.
The Sanyo runs at much lower power for longer cycles..
Right now, (10:22AM) the Gree is using 1.23 KW, while set for 69F.
Temperature at the Gree Remote is 72F.. (I-Feel is On).
Oops, it just went off. Now using Zero Watts.. :D

How is it doing in this cold weather? Is it keeping up and putting out good heat in very cold temps?
It is 35 here on its way down to 22 tonight. Very cold for here…

It's going to get colder during the next 10 or 12 hours.. Already at 10F at my house..
Temp falling fast.. This will be the 1st test of the Gree at these temps..

Right now, the Sanyo in the den is using 840 watts, but putting out very little heat..
The Gree hasn't turned on since I set it back to 66F an hour ago..
I also have the free-flow running from the oil burner.. So it's assisting..

Got to get some sleep now.. Hope the temp stays above the forecast of 5..

Cold this morning..
 

It was 2 degs F when I turned up the temp to 67F and got 120F output air..
High power use at 2.2 KW. Didn't use but about 1KWh per hour during the night.
(Low: 2.0°F 7:27am)

One problem this morning was a Gree reset from out of nowhere..
It might have been the power grid. I removed the 10A current sensor
from the SS relay power limiter (so the power isn't limited).
But the 60 second power off circuit is still working.
If the grid spiked down to zero volts, the SSRs would turn off for 60 seconds.
After the time-out the Gree came back on, without any intervention, and is working fine now..

Using about 1.4 KW to heat the den, since I took the Sanyo offline at 01:30.
Got some little space heaters working in there.. And they are working fine..
Just for fun, I powered up the Sanyo this morning.. No heat out at all.. As expected..

Temperature got up to 12F about an hour ago, so I put the Den back on the Sanyo and it's working well..
Not using anything but M/S heating right now.. With a little solar coming in the South windows..
