I was reading my 2014 NEC book and found that one of the new changes allows portable generators with detachable locking cord, under 15kw of output to not require their own disconnect, since turning off the machine or pulling the cord serves the same function as having its own disconnect.

It also requires something I thought was a good idea. Now portable generator tie ins are to include a sticker indicating if the generator tie in is setup for a bonded or floated neutral generator.
How do you tell? If you have a 240 volt output generator, it will have a bonded neutral. If you have a 120 volt single line generator its likely going to have a floating neutral.
I wouldn't recommend connect a floating neutral to a home electrical system, because I have seen a lot of electricians use dog leg ground and talk about them as if it was accepted practice.
