Got a cell phone or other nifty device you use all the time? Want to run it on solar power? Well, its really not that hard. Honus, an instructables.com user has written up a nice little tutorial on how to make a solar iPod/iPhone charger for yourself.

The tutorial includes everything you need to know and more. If you wish to alter the kit, Honus has suggested alternative items that would let you go with a larger solar panel, or larger battery. He even has calculated the CO2 savings you would get from using the solar charger.

I really think little gadgets like this are great. Throw it on your window sill at home or dashboard in the car. Attach your device when you get into the car or get home from work and the next day you have it ready to go. Maybe its just me, but the number of wall warts in my house just annoys me. So, maybe you can’t afford a huge solar array to power your entire home. But, for as little power as these small devices consume, this is a perfect application for solar power.
