There are about 3.4 btu in a watt. As xringer stated the resistance heaters are nearly 100 percent efficient, not counting the fan. Heat pumps are over 100 percent efficient counting the fans. The COP of most air source units falls into the 3 to 4 range. Multiply that by 3.4 to find the EER. SEER is seasonally adjusted EER, and is not a good indication of heating performance.

While it is generally true that a higher SEER unit is more effective at doing its job, there are lots of other factors that affect heating performance. The Gree system xringer installed is aimed straight at customers who need low ambient heating. Most of the other offerings in this type of unit command heavenly price tags. Not many people are willing to take the plunge like he did without something other than shiny leaflets and marketing slogans.

Default The forecast for high teens last night was wrong..

Around 7PM it dropped below 10 deg F.. For about 12 hours!
Normally, a drop like this happens early in the AM and is burned off by the sun in less than 3 hours..
The Gree worked very well last night. Using 10.5 KWh (since midnight) during the last 10 hours. (currently 10AM here).
We did have the Free-flow oil-assist on, since we didn't know how cold it was gona get..

Looking at the plot, I was happy the Sanyo lasted until that little dip around midnight.
The amber LED and Green LED started blinking, so I shut it down for the night, at about 7 degrees F..
Turned it back on this morning about 8AM when it got back above 10F again.
Used the power-hog space heaters to keep the den at ~ 67F..
Wife was in there early, because this morning the Grandson delivery process started.

The forecast is for a week of Indian Summer! Starting right now!!

Default It got down to 3 deg F at 6:31am this morning..

The Gree worked nicely all night. At midnight, the Sanyo stopped..
I had the oil-fired back-up ready to go, but it never never needed.

Since the Den has so much glass, I didn't want it to get too cool in there,
so I turned on a 900w space heater for 6 hours. (3,000 BTUh).
That worked okay. It was 65F in the den this morning
(doors & window into the main house were open).

In the 16 hours since midnight, power use was:
Sanyo 3.8 KWh (Nonfunctional between midnight and 8:30AM).
Gree 15.4 KWh
Space 5.4 KWh (6 hours using 0.9 KW per hour. Assuming it stayed on).
Total 24.6 KWh

Less than $5 to survive the first Blizzard of 2017!

Because of the wind driven snow, the Gree did many defrost cycles.
There was no noticeable drop in room temperature.. Seamless..

I saw the Sanyo do a couple of defrost cycles. It seemed to be working okay
before midnight, even after the temp had been flat at about 9 deg for around 3 hours.
Slowly, the output air was less & less warm and the power creeping up around 900watts.
I think the slow build-up of snow and Ice, got to be too much. It just stopped. So, I turned it off.
Early this morning when it was 10 Deg, I turned it back on.. The output air
was so luke-warm, I just turned it back off..

I believe we could have used the Gree only for this storm and it would have
kept the main house (LR & Kitchen areas) warm for the 10 hours it was under 10F outside..
The Den would have dropped down to around 60-65F, maybe..

I'm thinking that another -20 deg F unit for the den would be nice..
Maybe even smaller than the 18 BTU Gree..

It got up to 23F today.. Now back down to 15F..
If it stays around 15F, I'll get to go to bed with the Sanyo running..

We had our warm day Wednesday.. Almost hit 50F..
After that it was all downhill until today.. Got some solar!!
It's coming up a little right now, due to the new snow storm..
I see the snow might end on Tuesday...

Default Winter is back again..

It got pretty cold last night..

9.0°F Yesterday's low. (last night before midnight, the Sanyo stopped)!
7.7°F This morning's low.

After midnight tonight, it's going down to -1°F..

Glad I got the Gree to keep us warm.. I have never seen these low temps
last for so many hours.. Just a few years ago, when it got down under 10F,
that would happen just before sunup and only last an hour or two..
Nowadays, the arctic vortex things just dwell for so many hours..
I'm worried that one of these weeks, it's going to stay around -10F to 10F for days on end..
That would be a disaster..

Currently 72F . Ran the bedroom MS a little this after noon ( nap time ) . On cool .

The cold you are experiencing , probably GW's or Trump's fault .

No , just kidding .

Hang in there , my friend , warmer weather will arrive .

God bless

Default Chilly last night

Heat is turned on with both units.. Still under 50F outside at 10:40 AM..

I did notice there is a big difference in the way Gree cycles during cooling.
It works more like a Sanyo. With low power use peaks between 400 to 500 watts.
That living room seems to like running 470 watts, like when we had the Sanyo in there..

The Gree heating cycles up and down near Max wattage. When it's really cold.
Now, it's just cool, so it is not peaking out very high.. Nowhere near 11 amps.
1200 watts is closer to 2Amps..
