Is there a problem with illegal trash dumping in Japan? Human nature is such that people don't want to pay, especially for getting rid of trash. The forests here are drowning in trash because that's how people save a tiny bit of money. There are a few recycling bins, like in parking lots next to shopping centers, and what do people do? They throw their trash into them!! Potatoe peels, beer cans, plastic bottles, asbestos roof tiles, all of it ends up in the 'Paper' container. It makes me sick!! People save a few $$ per month on their trash bill, but waste large amounts of $$$$ on cigarettes, alcohol, gambling.

How can people be taught to reduce their trash and recycle, and not dump everything into city sidewalk trash cans, forests, rivers, etc.???
